Who We Are
“Have you eaten yet?” — until the early 1990s, this was one of the most common greetings between Chinese people, instead of simply saying “hello.”
For many generations in China, food was never something taken for granted. The country endured wars, hardship, and periods of scarcity, and being able to eat a full meal was once considered a rare blessing. Because of this history, asking someone “Have you eaten?” was not merely small talk — it was a genuine expression of care, concern, and warmth.
Even today, while traveling in China, you may meet elderly uncles and aunties insisting on handing you fruit, snacks, or homemade food. To many Chinese people, caring for others through food is instinctive — a quiet kindness deeply rooted in the culture.
At Hi Orient, we believe travel is not only about visiting places — it is about understanding people.
China is far more than famous landmarks and postcard scenery. It is the sound of morning markets, families gathering around a shared meal, old traditions still alive in everyday life, and the rhythm of cities and villages constantly evolving between past and future.
Mission
We create journeys that bring travelers closer to the real China — not only what you can see, but what you can feel. Through local food, conversations, traditions, neighborhoods, and everyday moments, we hope our guests leave with a deeper understanding of how Chinese people live, celebrate, connect, and care for one another.
Our goal
At Hi Orient, our goal is simple: to help you experience China not as a visitor looking from the outside, but as someone welcomed into its stories, culture, and way of life.
