ON THE ROAD LOGISTICS

1. Refueling

·Gas stations require a Chinese ID to enter. As a foreigner,  you must ask staff to manually register your passport or use their ID to do that for you.

· Strategy: Stations are far apart. Fill upwhenever you see one.

·checkpoints: Expect frequent securitystops.

·Keep Handy: Passport, temporary permit, and a printed copy of your daily itinerary to speed up the process.

2. Navigation

·Use Gaode Maps(高德地图)or Baidu Maps(百度地图).  Both offer English settings, real-time GPS, and-critically-speed limit alerts to avoid fines.

3. Communication

·Buy a local SIM card (China Mobile "Tianshan Pass") at a service center China Mobile using your passport. Ensure you have plenty of data.

CAR PICK-UP & RETURN GUIDE

1.Vehicle Inspection (Pick-up)

·Video Documentation: Start a video recording on your phone beginning with the license plate, thenperform a slow walk-around of the exterior.Ensure you capture close-ups of any existing scratches, dents, or paint damage.

·Dashboard Check: Film the dashboard with the engine running. Verify that no warning lights are on and document the initial fuel level.

·Maintenance Check: Ensure tire pressure is adequate and windshield washer fluid is topped up. For remote or off-road itineraries, verify the oresence of a spare tire, jack, and tow rope.

2. Paperwork & Insurance

·Contract Review: Carefully read the rental agreement and clarify the insurance coverage limits.

·Emergency Protocols: Confirm the specific steps to take in the event of an accident with the delivery staff.

·Digital Copy: Always take a clear photo of the signed contract for your records.

3. Familiarization

·Before departing, familiarize yourself with the vehicle's controls, including light switches, wipers, and infotainment system. Take a quick test drive around the lot to get a feel for the braking and steering.

4. Security Deposit

·Ensure your deposit is ready. If you are using Alipay to waive the deposit, a Zhima Credit (芝麻信用) Score of 650 or higher is required.

5. Vehicle Return

· Fuel Policy: Return the vehicle with the same fuel level as recorded at pick-up to avoid refueling surcharges. 

·Cleanliness: Ensure the interior is clean and free of trash

· Final Sweep: Double-check all compartments(glove box, door pockets, under seats) for personal belongings before handing over the keys

PACKING & SAFETY ESSENTIALS

1.Money

· Bring CNY 1,000-2,000 in cash: remote towns may not accept mobile payments.

· Summer: Light jacket (nights hit 15°C). Winter: Down jacket and snow boots (-30°C).

3.Drone use

·Xinjiang has strict drone controls. Any drone(including small toy drones) must be reported in advance to the local public security bureau or culture & tourism department. Some scenic areas (such as Kanas and HeavenlyLake/Tianchi) prohibit drone flights. Unauthorized flights may lead to confiscation and fines
